SYBIR MEMORIAL MUSEUM
PROBLEM: To design a corporate identity project for the newly created Sybir Memorial Museum, where the most important aspect is the memory of past events. To create a universal message that will be meaningful for each person while drawing attention to the multifaceted problem of deportation to Siberia.

IDEA: A red line, deletion gesture, negation, manifestation of helplessness against the fatalism of human history.

SOLUTION: We have based the identification system on a red line, striking out, symbolising not only a negation, but also the closure of a certain age in our history. The word MUSEUM in logo was crossed out intentionally to stress that the history shouldn’t be closed in museums, but it needs to be activity discussed. The struck-through text was difficult to read as an attempt to inhibit perception and serve as metaphors of the severe living conditions of those who were exiled to Siberia and their ensuing lack of hope. Going forward, the line also symbolised prison bars. The strike through the MUSEUM’s name stood for a kind of “never again”, but it also means the end of freedom. On the website we used a multiplier logo system. By every single refreshing on the page, the red line went a different way. The multiplier logos created an infinite number of connections, which brought to mind the vastness of the exiles and the inability to make statistics reflecting the exact number of people deported to Siberia.
